TCPA.com
Editorial Policy
On this page
This page summarizes the standards TCPA.com applies to what we publish about the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and related rules from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Our goals
- Explain the law accurately and in plain English.
- Point readers to the official text so they can check it themselves.
- Keep content current as rules and court decisions change.
- Keep explanation of the law separate from opinion, and label opinion clearly.
Sourcing standards
Every legal statement on TCPA.com should be supported by a primary source: the statute, a regulation, an FCC or FTC order, or a court opinion. Each guide, case page, article and research guide lists its sources with links.
- We prefer official sources of the law, such as the U.S. Code, the eCFR, the Federal Register, docs.fcc.gov and court websites.
- When we cite news or commentary, we identify it as such, and we do not rely on it alone for a statement of law.
- We cite cases with the court, docket number and decision date.
Who writes and reviews content
Our authors write and review their own content. They may use writing tools and artificial intelligence (AI) tools, as described in our How We Use AI policy.
Bylines
Each article, guide, case page and research guide carries a byline naming its author, linked to the author's page.
Updates
When a rule changes or a court issues a significant decision, we aim to update the affected pages.
Corrections
To submit a correction, please use our contact page. Include the URL of the article, quote or describe the information you believe is incorrect and, if you like, send us the correct information.
We will do our best to review every correction we receive. However, we are under no obligation to correct or change any information we do not agree with, even if it is wrong.
Independence and conflicts of interest
TCPA.com is owned by Ringba, LLC. The people who write for TCPA.com are involved with various businesses, for example as owners, officers, employees, advisers or investors. Some of those businesses may be regulated under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Telemarketing Sales Rule and other telecommunications and marketing laws, and some may not. They may include companies that make or route calls, send texts, generate or buy leads, or sell calling, texting or call tracking technology. Each contributor's current business role is listed on their author page.
These relationships can create conflicts of interest, real or perceived. A conflict does not mean a piece is biased or wrong, but we believe readers should know about it and judge for themselves.
- What we disclose. When we know that a contributor has a material connection to a company, product or service discussed in a piece, such as an ownership interest, a job or a paid relationship, we aim to say so in that piece.
- What we cannot promise. We do our best to identify and disclose conflicts of interest, but we cannot guarantee that every conflict is known or disclosed. Business interests change, and unknown or other conflicts may arise from time to time, including after a piece is published. When we learn of a conflict that should have been disclosed, we aim to update the affected page.
- Do your own checking. Nothing on TCPA.com is an endorsement of any company, product or service. Verify anything that matters to you against the primary sources and with your own lawyer.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, TCPA.com and its owners, editors, authors and contributors disclaim all liability for any actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest, whether or not it was known or disclosed, and for any loss, damage, cost or claim arising from or related to any such conflict. By using the site, you agree not to hold TCPA.com or any of them responsible for any conflict of interest. Our Terms of Use contain additional disclaimers and limitations of liability.
Use of AI tools
We use artificial intelligence (AI) tools for research assistance and writing assistance. All content is reviewed and edited by people before it is published. See How We Use AI.
